“Starfield” may be an all-new video game IP, but it can be said that it is one of the most awaited titles in the gaming community. However, fans might have to wait until 2021 to hear more about it.
‘Starfield’ release date
It has been a while since “Starfield” was first announced, but fans are still practically clueless on what to expect in its gameplay. Its release date is also a big puzzle without many pieces to work with except with the recent hints that it is not going to happen this year.
A fan on Twitter shared a story about her boyfriend dreaming of Bethesda announcing there will not be any news about “Starfield” until next year. Pete Hines responded to her tweet simply saying, “Your bf is smart.” With Hines being Bethesda Softworks’ SVP of public relations and marketing department, his reply appears to have just made that dream a reality.
Another fan commented on the social media post explaining how it is not surprising that there will not be any “Starfield” announcements this year. While Bethesda is still going to conduct the QuakeCon, the same fan argued that the new IP will need a much bigger stage similar to E3, which was canceled due to COVID-19. Hines also replied with a popular GIF meme implying that the fan’s explanation was a wise one.
While Hines did not directly confirm that more announcements are slated in 2021, it is a likely outcome. After all, it does not seem right for Bethesda to let two consecutive years go by without releasing a new teaser or making a huge announcement about its new IP. However, setting the games release date next year seems unlikely since Bethesda would not have much time to advertise it.
So, what is ‘Starfield’?
Despite “Starfield” is a new IP, fans have Bethesda Games Studios’ credentials of video games it developed as reasons to keep their hopes up about the title. To those that do not know, the developer worked on “The Elder Scrolls” 3 to 5 as well as the latest releases in the “Fallout” franchise.
After “Starfield’s” announcement during E3 2018, not much was revealed about its plot or gameplay. What’s only confirmed so far is that it will be a role-playing game set in space. In an earlier interview with the Guardian, Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard said development started after they completed “Fallout 4,” which was released in November 2015.
