Xiaomi’s product announcement plans for 2020 might not be finished yet. The company could end the year with the launch of the Mi 11 series, a reliable leaker reported.
Xiaomi Mi 11 release date: Announcement happens before 2020 ends?
Xiaomi’s flagship smartphone series has been the company’s opening salvo every year as new devices under this series are usually announced within the first quarter of the year. However, that could be changing soon as more reports emerge suggesting that the Mi 11 lineup could be announced sooner.
Twitter user Ice Universe, who has had plenty of accurate leaks in the past, recently reported that the Xiaomi Mi 11 is slated to become the first smartphone powered by Snapdragon 888. The chipset was just announced by Qualcomm this week. The same source stated that Mi 11 series “will be released at the end of December.”
This is not the first report to suggest the Xiaomi Mi 11 series is having a much earlier release window. Another leaker from China shared in late November that the device has been registered for network certification recently. In the same post, the tipster mentioned that the device would be announced “next month,” which was interpreted by some as possibly pointing at a January 2021 launch. But it now appears that “next month” could simply mean December and the world might just be a few weeks away from seeing Xiaomi’s next flagship smartphones.
Xiaomi Mi 11 specs, design: What to expect
Ice Universe’s same report also contained a leaked photo that reportedly shows Xiaomi Mi 11’s “four-curved screen design.” Some people who have seen the image started suspecting that the device could adopt the under-display camera technology due to the lack of a camera hole. However, note that the component shown in the post, as the source indicated, is the smartphone's “protective film” and not the actual display panel.
No other leaks have been spotted in the wild yet. But there are speculations that the Xiaomi Mi 11 series could receive a major display bump, especially its Pro model. There have been reports suggesting that, at least, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro could get a display that supports 120 Hz refresh rate.
